The Learning Center, once a viable institution in New Orleans as a part of the New Orleans Public Library, like much of New Orleans no longer exists, it was washed away by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. The Learning Center in Exile has become one of a documentation of my and others' rites of passage toward personal progress like getting a decent job at middle age or finishing school. It is also a place for political and societal rantings. All of this is to keep you reading here.

Fred Shuttlesworth, Civil Rights Leader, Dies At 89
Too often the word great is used to describe people. In the case of Dr. Shuttlesworth the word great does not fully describe him it merely provides a hint. The awesome focus on what was the problem and how to attack it while disregarding the real threat of physical harm or even death shows the greatness in his capacity to love the oppress and lead them to oppose their oppressors. He could have just saved himself. He chose not to but to fight for others. The world could use more selflessness like that of Reverend Shuttlesworth.
John 15:13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (KJV)
